Aktid expands with the creation of Aktid Italia to offer its state-of-the-art sorting solutions to the international market
Aktid, company based in Chambéry (France), French leader for designing and building of turnkey solutions for sorting solid waste, has started an important internationalization project. After opening the capital during the summer of 2023 to accelerate growth abroad, Aktid created Aktid Italia and acquired Italproget, an Italian company specialized in the production of machinery and components for waste sorting and recycling plants that has been working closely with Aktid for over ten years. With this first acquisition, Aktid strengthens its position and expands its business in the European market.
Aktid Italia will take care of the sorting centres design. “Drawing on our experience and integrating Italproget’s in-depth knowledge of the market, we believe that Aktid Italia can quickly become one of the main players in the Italian market”, enthuses Pierre-André Payerne, president of Aktid.
“We are excited to start a joint story with Aktid. We have known each other for a long time and share the same values: customer satisfaction, compliance with commitments and creation of reliable, sustainable and efficient solutions over time. With the technical know-how and technological innovations of Aktid’s R&D teams, we will be able to grow our business in Italy enormously”, says Marco Crociani, CEO of the Italian companies.
Since 1995 Aktid has been designing and building sorting centres for all types of solid waste: dry recyclable materials waste; municipal solid waste; post-consumer waste (PCW) and construction waste; plastic regeneration. In addition, it is an expert in the construction of refuse-derived fuel production facilities. It deals with the development of new solutions, from the simplest to the most complex, and with the modernization and upgrades of existing centres to improve their performance.
In 2023, Aktid reached a turnover of 80 million euros with 120 employees. Its main customers are local public authorities (Savoie Déchets, Metropolis de Tours, etc.), big groups (Veolia, SUEZ and Paprec Group) and private collection centres (GUYOT Environnement, ROUVREAU Group, CASSOUS Group). More than one hundred and fifty sorting centers have been built, among the most significant there are: Syproval, which treats 110,000 tons/year of household waste, industrial waste, bulky waste and scraps to produce RDF; Bennes Services, which treats 150,000 tons/year of construction waste; Paprec Plastiques, which processes 52,000 tons/year of plastics.
In addition to the construction of big sorting centres, over the years Aktid has also implemented numerous innovative tools including Smart Solutions®, a range of products that applies artificial intelligence processes to optimize operations and improve performance, availability and quality of products recycled. These include: ABI, Smart Regulation, Smart Packing and Smart Assistant.
ABI (Aktid Business Intelligence) is the first control system (MES type) specifically designed for sorting center operators and for all market segments. Available on consoles and mobile applications, it presents all operating data in a visual and very intuitive way, allowing perfect control of the productivity and performance of the facilities. Smart Regulation is an automated flow regulation system, positioned at the entrance of the line, designed and developed to ensure a regular and constant flow of waste. This innovation increases the productivity of the process and ensures quality control of the selected product. Smart Packing is an automatic silo emptying and baling system that optimizes the material packaging process.
Based on all the data collected, Smart Packing determines the optimal emptying cycle and controls all baling equipment (silos, conveyors, baler) without the need for an additional manual intervention. Finally, Smart Assistant is a portable solution that predictively warns in the event of imminent problems and advises the most correct action to operating staff in real time.
Aktid’s added value lies precisely in the significant investments in innovation. In addition, the return of experience collected and analyzed in almost thirty years of activity allows the company to offer high-performance solutions. In line with progress of the recycling industry, Aktid has chosen to implement an internal improvement process and to invest considerably in research and development, with the aim of answering responsively to the challenges of technological innovation. This strategy has allowed the emergence of new state-of-the-art solutions and procedures that make plants increasingly efficient, improving the return on investment.
“The creation of Aktid Italia marks a new stage in our development and will help to create synergies and a virtuous commercial and industrial dynamic. We are very happy to welcome the Italian teams and I have full confidence in Marco Crociani to strengthen our presence beyond the Alps”, says Pierre-André Payerne.
